Client Objective
With no reliable source of information on the type of equipment in use on farms today, our client approached us to determine if a survey could adequately predict the make and model share of various equipment types.
Our Approach
- Drawing from our database of farmers in Canada, we conducted an online survey targeting 1,500 farmers. A quota was set to be representative of total crop acres by Census Ag Region.
- A very robust database of make and model for SP combines, air seeders/drills, planters, SP sprayers and fertilizer spreaders was developed in conjunction with the client and partner agencies.
- Respondents provided their total crop acres, the make and model of all equipment on-farm and their future intentions for purchase.
- A unique weighting methodology was utilized in the final determination of share of crop acres by equipment make and model.
The Results
- The study was successful in filling a significant information gap for our client.
- They were able to use this information to better define the opportunity that existed for the application of their new technology.
